Not so long ago, no one could take away our city’s maritime honors: the maritime museum at School No. 4, registered by the Ministry of Culture and Art; similar maritime museums; the Neptune Club and the Antarctic Museum at the “Eight”; maritime monuments—including one with the country’s largest 8.5-ton anchor from the m/s “Karkonosze” incorporated into its obelisk; hundreds of meetings with people of the sea; scientific symposia on maritime topics; sea-related street names and the park named after the Defenders of Hel; the introduction of the concept of “maritime education” into Polish pedagogy; and, finally, the ambassador of the town on the Bóbr River sailing the seas and oceans—the namesake ship m/s “BOLESŁAWIEC”—all testify to many years of achievements in this field. Councillor Paweł Śliwko submitted a motion to revive the city’s once-warm ties with the crew of the m/s “BOLESŁAWIEC” and to have cultural or educational institutions, or the Bolesławiec Enthusiasts’ Association, take the initiative in this regard. It is a worthwhile endeavor; this tradition must not be abandoned.
