Councillor Zdzisław Abramowicz presented the town authorities with an interesting initiative, informing them about the creation of an informal association of young hobbyists interested in the history and monuments of our city and searching for material traces of the past. It is worth adding that we have not been fortunate when it comes to archaeological excavations, and many sites still remain suitable for exploration and searches, perhaps promising more than one scientific sensation and discovery. It is enough to mention the town hall dungeons and other walled-off or provisionally secured underground spaces, not excluding the defensive walls and filled-in cellars. Not everything can be searched amateurishly, on a chance basis; many facts can be found in documents written and compiled in German, an area in which the late Zbigniew Szczepański, M.A., specialized.
The Bolesławiec Material Culture Enthusiasts’ Club, bringing together people with a taste for adventure and discovery, can count on the city’s interest, assistance and sponsorship, joining its work with TMB and the city museum, which has an opportunity to use rooms in the new building to expand, with the club’s help, its collections concerning the city’s history. It is worth remembering that exceptionally rich museum collections were created at public expense in several Bolesławiec schools; perhaps it is therefore worth following this lead.
