In the first ten days of October ’94, Bolesławiec hosted an off-site meeting of the Lower Silesian Chamber of Crafts. The host was Eugeniusz STACHOWSKi, the Senior of the Guild in Bolesławiec. Among the participants were Elżbieta CHUCHOLSKA, secretary of the National Council of Crafts in Warsaw; Jan ZIOBERSKI, president of the Lower Silesian Chamber of Crafts in Wrocław; representatives of all craft organizations from the former Jelenia Góra Voivodeship; and Lesław ŚLIWKO, director of the Business Support Centre in Jelenia Góra. Following the visit by the authorities from the capital, the town on the Bóbr River—alongside Zgorzelec—now has a CWB information point, with prospects for developing information and service activities financed by EEC funds.
The traditional aim of the meeting was to obtain information about the problems facing local crafts and to exchange experiences extensively. The participation and opinions of local councillors were also important: Paweł ŚLIWKO, a member of the city board; the committee chairs—Jacek RUCHAŁA of the Economic Development and Finance Committee, Dorota PIŃCZUK of the Education, Culture and Sport Committee; and Urszula RUP of the corresponding committee of the Bolesławiec Commune Council.
The condition and economic health of local crafts, which had always been an element shaping the development of cities and a factor in the economic growth of the local community, caused justified concern among those gathered. The discussion focused, among other things, on the training of approximately 3,000 students preparing to become journeymen and master craftsmen. More than 500 of them were learning their trades at schools in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec, 800 in Jelenia Góra, 400 in Lubań, and the remainder in Kamienna Góra. Cooperation with educational institutions was exemplary, and collaboration with the local School of Trade and Services was rated particularly highly. On the occasion, nomination certificates were presented to masters of various trades appointed to examination committees, enabling journeyman and master examinations and courses to be organized locally—at the Guild of Various Crafts in Bolesławiec.
