The summer months (June, July and up to 20 August) were very "fruitful" in incidents recorded by the Bolesławiec police.
There were 20 road accidents, as a result of which: – two motorcycle riders and two car drivers were killed; – two pedestrians struck by vehicles were killed; – a child crushed by agricultural machinery and an adult man crushed by a tractor were killed;
Ten cars were stolen, and more than 40 theft-related incidents were recorded (break-ins at shops, cars, garages, etc.). In addition, there were robberies, assaults, fights involving a knife, and self-harm. An attempt was also recorded to "forcibly" collect a debt of PLN 20 million. Several firearms and ammunition, as well as equipment for making ammunition, were found in one of the apartments. Two Belarusians who were selling alcohol and cigarettes without excise stamps were arrested. The perpetrator of a Trabant theft was arrested, as was a drunk man who destroyed a typewriter worth PLN 4.8 million at the UM. Several mountain-bike thefts were recorded, and four perpetrators of these thefts were arrested.
The holiday period is already behind us, but please remember that none of the various dangers we write about in these columns have ceased. Please be careful and more vigilant. Take care of your property. Police experience suggests that most incidents would not have occurred if not for negligence, a lack of common sense and typical "social indifference".
