In May, at the Municipal Cemetery in Bolesławiec, in the presence of many doctors, patients and friends, we said farewell to Dr Leszek Bedełek.He was a doctor, community activist and a colorful figure in the local community. He was born on 18 October 1930. He graduated from the Medical Academy in Warsaw and was assigned to work in Olecko in the Suwałki region. He specialized in surgery and occupational medicine. In 1966, he came to Bolesławiec, beginning his medical and administrative work in the healthcare service of our town. He held many positions, from Head of the Health Department and Director of the ZOZ to managing numerous medical clinics at PKP, the Police, in Zebrzydowa and at the Bolesławiec Construction Company. He served on the Parents’ Committees of Primary School No. 2 and the General Secondary School. These are only a few facts from his rich life story. And what kind of person was he? The friends and colleagues of “Leszek” who knew him well said that he belonged to a generation that attached no importance whatsoever to material goods, which were secondary to him. An optimist who valued every day he lived and greeted it with a smile. One of the last “wags,” in the positive sense of the word. His friends valued the company of this humorous, cheerful man, who was always ready with a joke and whose good spirits infected everyone around him.In the final months of his life, as a doctor aware of his condition and serious illness, he did not let those closest to him see it. He died too soon. He left behind a fond memory. We will miss you, “Leszek.”
