Over the 40 years of the Youth Cultural Centre’s activity, tens of thousands of children and young people acquired knowledge and practical skills there. Today, many of them send their own children to MDK, recalling not only the old days with sentiment, but also the benefits they gained there.
New schools, clubs and cultural centres have been established in our city. Aware of the better conditions offered by other institutions, children and young people most often come here. This situation has given the institution its distinctive character: classes conducted exclusively in interest groups, an atmosphere of mutual kindness, and a high level of knowledge and professionalism among the teaching staff.
The Youth Cultural Centre is a multifaceted institution, conducting classes in 68 interest groups. A great deal is being done, and done well, which can be compared with the versatility of its patron, Stanisław Wyspiański, for whom the world existed when he saw in it a reflection of art. It is not often that an institution’s patron serves as a determinant of its educational and pedagogical activity and of creating integrated aesthetic education through art, and this establishes the priority: recognised artistic forms practised by children and young people on an amateur basis in the most subtle meaning of the word. All the participants’ creative work is subordinated to specific aesthetic criteria and has achieved great success for many years. Art exhibitions, recitation competitions, music and dance concerts, modelling competitions, courses on cultural knowledge and theatrical performances—these are activities that have created optimal conditions facilitating the perception of reality, which in turn raises the cultural level of children, young people and adults.
Participation in numerous artistic events provides emotional experiences and an opportunity to commune with the beauty of art.
The institution is distinguished by the systematic and continuous nature of its educational and pedagogical work, as well as the reliable work of both those who no longer work here and those currently conducting classes, without whom success would not be possible.
By introducing people to the world of culture, the Youth Cultural Centre helps them prepare to participate creatively in it, putting into practice the pedagogical idea that education through art is education for the future.
