There is no need to convince anyone of the necessity of organizing a Bolesławiec ceramics fair in our town. The historical justification is more than obvious. The first mentions of Bolesławiec potters appeared as early as the 15th century. Ceramics entered the markets of neighboring countries. And acquiring new markets was not difficult, because products from Bolesławiec had no equal competition. Bolesławiec potters exported their products to the Prussian provinces, Saxony, Poland and Russia. “Leaping” across entire centuries, we arrive at modern times. Let us note two more dates: 1897 – the founding of the School of Ceramics, and 1907 – the opening of the Museum (today the Museum of Ceramics). The post-war period is clearly marked by the dates 1950 – the establishment of a plant producing artistic ceramics (under the patronage of the Higher School of Fine Arts in Wrocław), and 1964 – the first ceramics plein air workshop. Thus, Bolesławiec became a strong center of design at a high artistic level; the designs of visual artists were introduced into serial production.
Bolesławiec has a great opportunity ahead: by placing an even greater emphasis on ceramics, it can become famous in Poland and throughout the world and, of course... grow wealthier thanks to trade contracts.
It is high time, therefore, to organize such initiatives in order to help our ceramic producers present their capabilities and promote their products widely both in the country and abroad. This is how the idea of a ceramics fair in our town was born. Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury submitted the following proposal to the mayor of the town:

Organize this year, in May, during the Days of Bolesławiec, the BOLESŁAWIEC CERAMICS FAIR, inviting all ceramic plants and companies from Bolesławiec and the surrounding area to participate,
The following year, 1995, undertake an initiative on a grand scale: the 1st CERAMICS FAIR in BOLESŁAWIEC, inviting domestic and foreign companies to participate
The mayor approved the idea. The first discussions and decisions led to the following arrangements:

the Bolesławiec Ceramics Fair ’94 will be held from May 26 to 29 in Bolesławiec’s Market Square
an organizational office for the Bolesławiec Ceramics Fair will be established
patronage of the Fair is proposed to be entrusted to the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works
the Town Office will undertake the preparation of commercial pavilions (design and cost estimate)
advertising will be prepared by Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury
A well-organized Fair could be a grand opening for the town and could invigorate our commercial life by giving other businesses an opportunity. Interested parties may register their participation or submit a proposal to Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury (tel. 41-24).
