The Sisters from the Congregation of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, after many years of absence, have now firmly settled into the Bolesławiec Saint Joseph Children's Home. Older residents remember how, in the post-war years, Sister Andrzeja wisely managed the thriving home and preschool. Elisabethan habits can once again be seen around the town—in the neighboring school, offices and various institutions, where the Sisters handle many matters connected with the lives of the children in their care. Children must have their material needs met, but for normal development they also need love, care and special attention. Elisabethan spirituality—guided by the religious rule, full of dedication and openness to the needs of others—makes it possible to recognize children's needs and meet them. The home is also a place where many good things happen, where the fully dedicated work of lay educators and teachers and religious Sisters is gradually beginning to bear fruit. A master's thesis is being written based on the educational experience of the Bolesławiec Children's Home. Speaking about the present day, one cannot overlook the enormous effort, work and concern of the former director, mgr Stanisława Wójcik, who, after renovations carried out in difficult times, brought the home to a usable condition and successfully managed it with great dedication. November 17 is a particularly solemn day—the patronal feast of the Elisabeth Sisters. On that day, the children in their care, educators, employees, teachers from the school attended by the children, the home's benefactors, representatives of the authorities and clergy meet with the Sisters.
In addition to good wishes, a regular feature is Holy Mass, as well as a performance in which all the children in care participate with great enthusiasm and are warmly applauded by those gathered. Wishing the Sisters and all the educators many genuine successes, I dream that the Association of Creative Teachers could become a good place for exchanging experiences, especially those arising from cooperation between religious and lay educators.
