Many human achievements are the work of chance – but no chance will help when there is no human involvement and dedication. Not many people are able to appreciate this.
One such committed person is Ms. Ola Burdyna from Żeliszów, who took on the responsibility of running an actively operating Rural Housewives’ Circle. In addition to the circle, Ms. Burdyna serves on the Audit Committee of the Voivodeship Association of Farmers’ Circles and Agricultural Organizations. She is also deputy chair of the Pensioners’ Association. The Rural Housewives’ Circle in Żeliszów has existed since 1970. The circle has 20 members. Circle members earn money for their needs by renting out dishes for weddings and parties.
Over the course of three years, Ms. Ola purchased many new items for the Rural Housewives’ Circle: an electric water heater, shelving units, pots, serving platters and many new dishes for the rental service.
Ms. Ola is also actively involved in the folk ensemble from Żeliszów. The circle has donors among its supporters: Ms. Adela Pokropywna donated a refrigerator to the Rural Housewives’ Circle. Thanks to the activities of the Rural Housewives’ Circle, and especially to Ms. Ola, the children of Żeliszów received ice cream, drinks and casseroles for Children’s Day. The Rural Housewives’ Circle subsidized meals at Primary School for some children. Courses in embroidery and making Christmas decorations were also organized for children.
For adults, the Rural Housewives’ Circle organizes an opłatek gathering, Women’s Day, Mother’s Day, village harvest festival celebrations, Senior Citizens’ Day for pensioners, and dressmaking and sewing courses every year.
The weekly meetings of the Rural Housewives’ Circle result in events, pleasant get-togethers over coffee and new ideas. Ms. Ola dreams of establishing a proper cabaret group in Żeliszów. “I would like,” says Ms. Ola Burdyna, “the kitchen we have to be even better equipped and improved than it is.”
Many people do not realize that Ms. Ola often fronts the money for an event herself, without knowing whether she will get that money back.
This demonstrates the great trust that guides Ms. Burdyna in her life, despite reality not always being rosy.
If there were more people like Ms. Ola, the world would truly be more bearable.
