At the initiative of Mikołaj Jankowski, president of the Bolesławieckie Towarzystwo Fotograficzne, the “Bolesławiec Photographic Community Competition” was announced at the end of 1993 for everyone taking photographs in the town and municipality. It was also a community review aimed at identifying a group of photographers actively engaged in their work during these difficult times for everyone. After reviewing 97 works, the jury—Danuta Dzieduszek, Anatol Wukała and Andrzej Pytliński—selected 24 works by twelve authors for the post-competition exhibition. According to BTF president M. Jankowski, this stringent selection was primarily due to the poor technical quality of the photographs, which in turn resulted from the lack of a photographic studio. Soon, such a studio will be generally available in the small premises of the Bolesławieckie Tow. Fotograficzne, and photography enthusiasts will be able to improve their skills under the guidance of professional instructors.
The jury of the Competition praised the diversity of subjects and interests among photographers from the Bolesławiec community. The jury awarded:
First prize (PLN 1.2 million) to Grzegorz Sidorowicz for the entirety of his accepted works
Second prize (PLN 0.8 million) to Robert Pomichter for the entirety of his accepted works
Third prize (PLN 450,000) to Rafał Hołoga for the entirety of his accepted works
Honourable mentions (PLN 200,000 each) to Stanisław Graczyk for the colour photograph “But This Is Interesting...”
Paweł Brzezicki for the works “Concert” and “XXX-4”; Jerzy Paluszczyszyn for an untitled work
The opening of the post-competition exhibition of the Bolesławiec Photographic Community took place on 15 January 1994 at 12:00 at the BTF Photography Gallery, open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 16:00 to 20:00 at 41 Kubika Street (next to the tower).
