During the summer holidays, specifically from 15 to 28 July this year, ten female students spent an enjoyable time at a camp in the Czech Republic. For several years, three friendly cities in the Nysa Euroregion—Pirna, Dečín and Bolesławiec—have organized camps whose purpose is to establish contacts among Polish, Czech and German young people and, of course, to learn the languages of their friends. Thus, five students from General Secondary School No. 1 and five from General Secondary School No. 2 stayed in Żandor.
The girls from our town, who had achieved excellent results in their studies and social work, were: Ania and Ewa Muszyńskie, Gosia Bazan, Beata Dziechciarz and Aneta Seweryńska. The women of Bolesławiec owed their trip to the Head of the District Office in Bolesławiec, Mr Jan Kisiliczyk, and the Principal of General Secondary School No. 2, Mrs Maria Sobolska, who was the girls’ supervisor at the camp. The town of Żandor itself lies on the Elbe near Ustka. The young people stayed at the “Waldpension” holiday resort. There were tennis courts, a volleyball court and other attractions, so there was no time to be bored.
The camp’s extensive programme included, among other things, trips to Dresden and Prague, visits to palaces and castles in northern Bohemia, and the Cistercian Abbey in Osek. Participants could also climb rocks in “Bohemian Switzerland”, take part in a pig slaughter according to an old Czech tradition, visit a brewery—with a tasting—and fill their time with hikes in the mountains. Naturally, friendships with Czech and German young people developed during discos and bonfires.
There were 56 participants at the camp altogether.
Everyone was very satisfied and is still impressed by the excellent organization and pleasant atmosphere. May such meetings become a tradition.
