Bolesławiec museum exhibits loaned for an exhibition in Pirna returned on 4 November. The Pirna museum, following extensive renovation and modernization, inaugurated its activities with an exhibition of collections from museums in cities with which Pirna maintains friendly contacts: France, Finland, the Czech Republic, Poland and Germany.
The exhibition ran from 19 June to 5 October this year and was visited by 8,000 people, including a delegation from Bolesławiec during the Pirna Days celebrations and the museum’s opening. Museum director Manfred Hickman expressed his desire to maintain mutual contacts and his satisfaction with the exhibition prepared by the Bolesławiec museum. The exhibition presented designs for functional ceramics and sculptural and ceramic works by Bolesławiec artists—ceramicists and participants in Bolesławiec plein-air workshops.
In return for the exhibition that had been brought there, the museum director proposed an exhibition entitled VIEWS OF SAXONY IN OLD GRAPHICS, which he is preparing for Bolesławiec and Děčín in the Czech Republic. Moreover, on 10 November, a delegation from Meklensdorf near Görlitz came to the Ceramics Museum to establish cooperation between the museums of the two localities. The guests toured our museum and invited the Bolesławiec museum staff to the opening of an exhibition on 27 November and to continue discussions concerning cooperation.
Werner Striese, the author of an exhibition of works presented at our museum at the beginning of the year, also visited the museum on 2 November. W. Striese has now expressed, on behalf of a group of sculptor-artists from Bad Urach, a desire to present the artists’ creative output in the Ceramics Museum’s gallery. The above proposals will be implemented in the coming new year.
