The Municipal Group of Social Youth Instructors of the Polish Red Cross (abbreviated as SIM PCK) consists of 15 people. They are students from Bolesławiec secondary schools, and their task is to provide training and educational activities supporting the development of various forms and areas of Red Cross work among young people.
The group’s members take part in Polish Red Cross training camps. Last year they went to Czechoslovakia, and this year to Sława Śl. At the camps, they learn how to provide first aid, with lectures, demonstrations, competitions and presentations serving as learning methods. The young people from SIM have established cooperation with the Children’s Home in Bolesławiec. An excursion to the Wrocław ZOO was organised for the children from this home. The SIM members collected part of the funds for the trip in their schools, part was covered by the local Polish Red Cross branch, and the coach was provided free of charge by the Director of BFFiA "Polfa". Last year, the group’s members collected 500,000 złoty at a dance to pay for Renata Myczewska’s operation. The SIM group received help in organising this event from the Director and SK PCK supervisor at II LO in Bolesławiec, to whom we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks on this occasion. As part of World AIDS Day observances, the group’s members distributed leaflets and contraceptives around the town. They provided considerable assistance during the honorary blood donors’ days. In addition, the group took part in the Concert of Christmas Aid, at which 120,000 złoty was collected and handed over to Owsiak. These are not the only examples of the activity of young people from SIM PCK. During the campaign to help the children of Bosnia, SIM members joined other young people in a street collection. Six and a half million złoty was collected, thanks to the goodwill of secondary-school headteachers, whom the young people would like to thank sincerely. Danuta Zielińska, head of the local Polish Red Cross branch, speaks very highly of the enthusiasm and dedication to the cause shown by the members of the SIM Group and expresses the belief that the young people from this group would do much more if not for the indifference of a large part of the residents of our town to humanitarian values.
