September, in addition to yellowing leaves, offers us the gathered treasures of summer, with their full range of colors and flavors and the diversity of the harvest.
The harvest festival of Gmina Bolesławiec, held on September 5 in Żeliszów, was overflowing with the shades of the passing season. Harvest Festival Leaders Janina Górniak and Czesław Burdukiewicz presented a loaf of bread with the beautiful message “so that no one would ever run out of it”...
The palette of colors was completed by the harvest procession, in which 14 localities presented original wreaths. In the competition for the most beautiful wreath, the committee decided that the hosts of the harvest festival—the people of Żeliszów—would receive the top prize of 5 million złoty for their wreath, while each of the remaining 13 localities received one million złoty.
The cake exhibition was a delight for the senses; its aromas and appearance could satisfy even the most discerning experts in the confectionery arts and gourmets. All these delicious products were awarded the same prize of 300,000 złoty. An unusual event was the seating of the announcers in the cab of a combine harvester, borrowed for the occasion from the Chairman of the Gmina Council, P. Jacek Kozłowski. The humor with which the performances were announced added just the right flavor to the entire event.
Among the guests—including candidates for the Sejm and Senate—stood out the Head of Gmina Bolesławiec, Kazimierz Gawron, who delivered a several-minute electoral credo.
The artistic program prepared by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury i Sportu was entertainment for the soul and began with a guest performance by a band from Gryfów. Performances by folk groups from Żeliszów, Brzeźnik, Ocice and Kruszyn alternated with performances by children, including the KOBRA cabaret from GOKiS and dances by girls from the FORTE ensemble. The harvest festival participants’ attention was drawn by an exhibition of agricultural produce organized by the Agricultural Advisory Center in Bolesławiec.
The event was financed by the Bolesławiec Gmina Office, while the entire event was organized by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury i Sportu. The hospitality and hard work of the residents of Żeliszów, as well as the assistance of many other people, should not go unmentioned.
The ensembles’ singing effectively drove away the rain clouds, which returned to the sky after the main event had ended. For this reason, the harvest festival dance was held in the community center, but it continued until late at night.
The harvest festival is already over. A long autumn and winter lie ahead, followed by spring, with hope for new, better harvests...
