In November of this year, over a period of less than two weeks, residents of all the villages in the municipality, at meetings convened by the Municipal Board, elected new authorities of the village councils: village heads, deputy village heads and members of village council boards, for a new four-year term.
According to the “village council statute”, serving in the bodies of the village self-government is a civic function intended to develop residents’ social activity, aimed at improving the economy and living conditions in the village council area. The village head should ensure communication between the village council and the Council, the Municipal Board and the Municipal Office, and perform the tasks in the field of public administration assigned by law.
The village head is obliged to participate in the proceedings of sessions of the Municipal Council with an advisory vote and may also submit motions on behalf of the residents of the village they represent.
In carrying out their duties, the village head should cooperate continuously with the village council board, whose duties include, among other things, supporting the village head.
In this year’s elections, personnel changes among village heads took place in 9 villages, out of a total of 29. The elections of village heads for the new term coincided with a farewell to the late Mr Edward Weselak of Kruszyn, one of the long-serving village heads of our municipality.
During the election meetings, the outgoing village council boards presented reports on their activities during the previous term. In addition, village residents submitted motions and questions to representatives of the Municipal Board and Office, most often concerning economic matters.
These motions were thoroughly analysed by the Municipal Council in terms of the feasibility of their implementation. They will be used in preparing draft annual plans for individual years.
A pleasant event concluding the previous term and beginning the new term of the village heads was a ceremonial meeting held on 16 December at the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Kruszyn. During the meeting, attended by Mr Władysław Majkowski – Chairman of the Municipal Council, the village heads were thanked for their many years of active work for the benefit of the villages, and the village heads newly elected for the 1995–1998 term were welcomed into the group.
