At the initiative of Władysław LANDSBERG, Chairman of the Bolesławiec City Council, and Włodzimierz KOWALSKI, Chairman of the Union of Combatants, a meeting with the city authorities was organized to discuss preparations for the ceremonial observance of the 50th anniversary of the return of the Western Lands to the Motherland and the anniversary of the liberation of our city on 12 February 1945. It was decided to establish a civic committee for the dignified jubilee, which would become a celebration of the entire local community, dedicated to young people as a reminder and to seniors and veterans in recognition of their contribution to restoring the Piast character of their ancestral homeland.
The committee’s work will be headed by Mr. W. Landsberg, and its members will include, among others, the Mayor of the City, the chairman of the Union of Combatants, and representatives of the Society of Bolesławiec Enthusiasts, the Bolesławiec Photographic Society, the military, the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, the Youth Cultural Centre, and the Education and Culture Committee. This list remains open to all interested parties. The team will prepare a detailed programme, which will include a ceremonial session of the City Council in the “Forum” building, attended by the residents of the town on the Bóbr, combined with the awarding of the title of Honorary Citizen of Bolesławiec to Rev. Władysław RĄCZKA, a concert featuring, among others, the “BOLESŁAWIEC” Song and Dance Ensemble, and an intimate meeting at the “PEGAZ” club with a group of pioneers, seniors and veterans. The possibility of installing a commemorative plaque in the Town Hall and publishing a special tourist brochure or another local publication is being considered—provided sponsors supply the necessary funds. The city still cannot look forward to the scholarly monograph being prepared for years by the Karkonosze Scientific Society, which is a pity: we have an exceptionally excellent opportunity to produce it.
