For eight years, the “Trawers” Tourist Club has existed in Bolesławiec. Initially, it operated at the MDK; it is currently based at the Inter-School Sports Centre. The club is headed by Roman Binkiewicz, MA – an instructor at the MOS and a geography teacher at Primary School No. 5 and Primary School No. 6. From the moment it was established, the club’s objective was clearly defined: to pursue tourism in the most professional manner possible. This objective is apparently being achieved effectively, because “Trawers” is known not only in the province, but throughout Poland. This is confirmed by the results achieved in the most important tourism events organised by the Ministry of National Education and the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) – the National Youth Tourist and Sightseeing Tournaments:
- 1986 – 1st place in Poland
- 1991 – once again, 2nd place in Poland,
- 1992 – 1st place (all the victories were achieved for Primary School No. 5), and once again 1st place in the country, this time achieved for the MOS.
Every year, young people from hundreds of schools across Poland take part in the tournament. Regional and provincial qualifying rounds are held. The winners represent their respective provinces in the national final. This year’s edition was the 21st and was organised in Żary. “Trawers” was represented by Primary School No. 5 pupils: Jacek Mroczek, Andrzej Kopiec and Rafał Rutkowski. They performed excellently. They won the highest-scoring sightseeing competition (knowledge of Poland’s geography and attractions) as well as the topography competition. They did not disappoint in the orienteering event, the first-aid competition or the cycling competition (road-traffic regulations and completing an obstacle course). They also placed among the leaders in the tent-pitching competition and the surprise competition (a trek using a city map). Taking first place by a wide margin, they defeated 38 provincial teams participating in the final. They won a cup, material prizes and free admission to secondary school (!).
The tournament results are not the only successes of “Trawers”.
Club members have repeatedly represented the province at various tourism events organised in Poland, including National Rallies, the Grunwald Rallies in Kraków and the Warsaw Rally. They always achieved top positions. The best over the years have been Jarosław Młynarczyk, Irena Janeczko, Mariusz Walczak, Ryszard Kupis, Beata Nawrocka, Wiktor Silbert and Wojciech Węglarz.
New talents: Paweł Czech, Artur Pieniądz and Robert Hołodniak.
Congratulations to “Trawers” and its leader.
Keep it up!
