On 20 March, the Inter-School Recitation Contest was held in the three largest halls to mark International Poetry Day. Twenty-four schools from the Lwówek Śl., Nowogrodziec, Osiecznica and Węgliniec districts, as well as the town and municipality of Bolesławiec, entered representatives in the contest. More than two hundred participants were registered, but 192 girls and boys took part in the “starting line-up”. The jury consisted of three subcommittees. Group A (grades I–III) was chaired by mgr Renata Kołcio. Group B (grades IV–VI) was chaired by mgr Krystyna Boratyńska, while Group C was chaired by mgr Romuald Witczak, editor-in-chief of “Kurenda” from Jelenia Góra. The event lasted nearly six hours.
In Group A, first place went to Michał Sasin from Płakowice (teacher: Marta Kobza), ahead of Ewa Kurowska from Primary School No. 10 (teacher: Lucyna Matulewicz) and Joanna Janeczko from Nowa Wieś Primary School (teacher: Grażyna Janeczko). Distinctions were awarded to: Grzegorz Dąbrowski, Primary School No. 10; Dagmara Gruszecka, Primary School No. 4; Krzysztof Piwowar, Primary School No. 8; and Katarzyna Gąsior, Primary School No. 8.
In Group B, first place went to Martyna Maciejewska from Primary School No. 10 (teacher: Kornel Filipowicz), second place to Piotr Pękacz from Nowa Wieś Primary School (teacher: Irena Stelach), and third place to Katarzyna Kaziów from Primary School No. 1 in Lwówek Śl. (teacher: Halina Braun). Distinctions went to: Joanna Kurlej, Primary School No. 1 in Lwówek Śl.; Agata Mścisławska, Primary School No. 1 in Lwówek Śl.; Iwona Kuśnierz, Zebrzydowa Primary School; Piotr Gursztyn, Primary School No. 4; Kamila Bakalarz, Primary School No. 2; Bartek Wolak, Primary School No. 4; Magdalena Matu-lewicz, Primary School No. 10; Marcin Rudziński, Primary School No. 10; Małgorzata Maciaszek and Marta Czubala, Primary School No. 6.
Group C. Magda Łukasiewicz from Primary School No. 10 won (teacher: Kornel Filipowicz), Sebastian Książek from Primary School No. 2 took second place (teacher: Jolanta Mulek), and Małgorzata Pękacz from Nowa Wieś Primary School (teacher: J. Szajwaj) and Katarzyna Sęk from Primary School No. 8 (teacher: J. Zarzycka) shared third place.

The prizes were presented on the day of the theatrical performances during the “POSZUKIWANIA 93” THEATRE MEETINGS, organised by the Youth Cultural Centre to commemorate World Theatre Day (27 March). The poetry contest was very well organised and the standard was high. The event’s organiser, MDK director mgr Marian Kostecki, warmly thanked all the jury members for their voluntary work carried out in their free time, and also expressed his gratitude to the teachers and participants in the event, as well as to TMB for funding some of the prizes.
