On July 4 at 4:00 p.m., the Federation of Young Social Democrats will hold the “Life Card – Save Someone Else’s Life” campaign in Bolesławiec’s market square. Activists from the left-wing youth organization will distribute life cards to passers-by—cardboard inserts for wallets, about the size of a small calendar. Filling one out will signify consent to posthumous organ transplantation.
The Lower Silesian Voivodeship will also take part in the nationwide FMS campaign. The cards will be distributed in Bolesławiec, Bogatynia, Lubin, Legnica, Jelenia Góra, Głogów, Złotoryja and Wrocław.
The card works in a simple way. It should be filled out and placed in a wallet. This will let doctors know that we have consented to the use of our organs after death.
On June 26, a press conference of the Federation of Young Social Democrats and the Democratic Left Alliance was held in Wrocław. The meeting’s guest was Professor Piotr Szyber, head of the Department and Clinic of Vascular, General and Transplant Surgery at the Wrocław Medical Academy. In Szyber’s view, there is no greater sacrifice for another person than giving them life. One donor can save six human lives. According to the professor, it is important to overcome stereotypes that distort the image of transplant medicine.
