MARIOLA SUDUL attended the General Secondary School in Bolesławiec. NORBERT GONCIARZ attended the Mechanical School Complex at that time. They met five years ago, sometime after the New Year’s Eve party in Gromadka, where Mariola’s parents and Norbert’s grandparents live.
Did they dream then of such a wonderful wedding and such a lavish reception? They were not thinking about it yet.
After graduating from the General Secondary School, Mariola became a student at the Economic Studies College in Legnica, while Norbert began his military service. Five years passed quite quickly, and since their love had not cooled over those years, the young couple decided to send out and deliver invitations to their wedding and reception.
An invitation also reached the editorial office of "Głos Bolesławca" – because, as it later turned out, Tadeusz Gonciarz and his wife Stanisława had been readers of "Głos" since its first issue, and the young couple had also become readers of our paper.
The wedding reception took place in Gromadka. The bride’s parents, Janina and Michał Suduł, rented a larger hall with a stage and facilities, because even the largest house could not accommodate 200 wedding guests. It was hard to believe that such weddings could still be held nowadays! It was truly a wedding worthy of being recorded in Kolberg’s books, and not because it lasted two days and two nights, or because there was enough food and drink for yet another—speaking modestly—wedding. What matters were the traditional games, rituals and all the non-culinary trappings. At this wedding, people really enjoyed themselves, like children. The atmosphere was unique.
There was a funny scene before the entrance to the wedding hall, when the newlyweds were tasked with sawing through a thick tree trunk and could not manage it. The task was completed with great skill by the 84-year-old grandmother. There was also a humorous untying ceremony, endless spicy songs, and later a parade of people in costumes (what ideas!) along with other attractions. The band called "Rubens"—reportedly from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki—played tirelessly. The boys became hoarse, but they did not let themselves be "finished off." During the so-called "gifts," fortune smiled on the young couple with an enviable smile. In addition to countless valuable presents, the newlyweds received from their parents the keys to a FIAT REGATA, naturally with the opportunity to take it for a test drive.
The reception was patiently filmed by a video camera and surely recorded the entire course of events better than the undersigned envoy of "Głos." Besides, it is truly impossible to describe everything, and believe me, it was simply a wonderful wedding.
As a gift from the editorial office, the newlyweds received a subscription to "Głos Bolesławca" and wishes that life on their new path would be just as successful as the wedding reception. May God bless you!
