The writer who often contributes to Słowo Polskie under the code name “eko” is right that before the war Bolesławiec was one of the greenest cities in Silesia.
Knowing only who might be hiding behind this code name, I want to support him in his fight to protect Bolesławiec’s natural environment and greenery. I believe the fundamental issue is to raise the ecological awareness of employees of the various companies carrying out work in the city.
As can be observed, all trenches for utilities are dug by excavators along the tree line, at a distance of 1 or 2 metres, thereby cutting through the trees’ lateral roots. After the work is completed, even once the trenches have been backfilled, these trees will begin to deteriorate and will eventually die.
An example is the recent work on Sądowa Street. When mowing the lawns on Tysiąclecia Street, MPGK employees using rotary mowers “ring-barked” several hawthorns growing along the road in a number of places.
