The Bolesławiec Enthusiasts' Society has already recorded—and all credit to it for this—quite a few successes in its rich history.
I believe that one of the TMB's most spectacular achievements in recent times has been the establishment of a local newspaper—"Głos Bolesławca".
Today, the local press in Poland—as in highly developed countries—is present in thousands of cities, towns, larger municipalities and communities. Local newspapers vary greatly in their journalistic and publishing standards. I am pleased that our "Głos" has been simply professional since its first issue.
Please also accept the following comments. I believe that in the near future "Głos" must also become a readers' forum for the residents of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area. What does this mean? It means that the public should learn about the city's problems from the inside out—from water, gas, housing and transport through culture and education all the way to health care. It is in the local press that the more important resolutions of our esteemed Municipal Council and the Board should be published, as well as, for example, question-and-answer sessions (read: interviews) with the city president, the Council chairperson, and others.
On the other hand, I believe that the city authorities have gained in "Głos" a superb means of communication and information with the public (the press is commonly regarded as the fourth estate) and should make full use of this opportunity.
