The time machine moves slowly but inexorably, and all that remains for us is to celebrate successive anniversaries. Ten may seem small, but it is a round number – an occasion for memories and a birthday cake with candles (there will certainly be room for them), a little nostalgia, and, of course, the pleasant sipping of champagne accompanied by a bouquet of good wishes.
What are ten years of the youngest school in Bolesławiec compared with the splendid dignity of the 50-year-old jubilaries: SP No. 1 and SP No. 9?
The beginning was difficult... Principal Krystyna Pieszko and the teaching staff shaped the image of this school. The ceremonial opening of “10” in the presence of the authorities of the time, speeches, good wishes, toasts and... everyday work. A huge building appeared in the cityscape, where more than 1,400 children studied in its first years. The magnificent gymnasium, bright, cosy classrooms and sports fields with a running track were a delight to the eye.
We were proud of every success – the first Olympians, competition winners and the outstanding sporting results of our children.
A beautiful, new building in the centre of the housing estate – a dream place for its residents to come together. A substitute for a local cultural and leisure centre? An opportunity that simply could not be wasted. Thanks to this, the school loses its anonymity, lives and develops its own character; it becomes something important to the entire community. The youthful history of “10” is marked by events important not only to children. Thanks to Principal Ewa Niewodniczańska and the joint efforts of teachers and parents – the school’s friends – regular events began to appear: the Janusz Kusociński Sports Memorial, the awarding of the “Health Leader” badge (“10” was the only school in the voivodeship to be entered in the register of schools promoting health), a summer festival for the residents of the housing estate and the city, an ecological song contest, “First-Graders’ Day”, joint activities for parents and teachers, and the January Open Day, presenting the school’s achievements in a varied and rich format.
Those who have not seen it should come, and they will certainly find something for themselves. Beneath picturesque parasols there is an array of attractive, naturally healthy treats. In the distance, girls from the aerobics group are dancing; beside the main entrance is an intended contrast – an ecological happening and guitar music in a blues rhythm. Festively decorated corridors display a range of students’ work, while competitions for children and adults are presented in an attractive setting – with fresh, fragrant products to choose from, straight from the school kitchen.
In the gym, nerves are running high – a volleyball match between parents and teachers; the children’s sympathies are divided – a fierce contest that will be remembered for a long time.
It had to succeed – dynamic, amusing and inventive... People liked it.
The school’s programme includes the following themes: ecology and health. Work is under way to name the school after Janusz Kusociński, culminating in a wonderful event in December 1994.
The new idea of “10” is to promote knowledge about one’s own city, region and environment...
The children explore not only the history of Bolesławiec, but also that of their own families. Dusted-off chronicles bring extraordinary, sometimes truly important information for shaping family bonds.
Our “10” has grown rich in a tradition of sporting successes, marked by countless cups and diplomas. This creates an obligation and suggests ideas, such as establishing a school where children can develop their sporting abilities.
An immediate clarification – this has nothing to do with pushing results at any cost through gruelling training.
This school should be a place not only for the most talented, but for everyone who wants to have fun and enjoy themselves.
We all wish this for ourselves – everyone connected with “10”: children, parents and teachers..
We warmly invite our Friends and supporters of our School to the anniversary celebrations on 6 December 1996, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
