Two important meetings during the holiday period were attended by TMB President Zbigniew Brusiło, MSc. On 25–26 June 1996, the First National Conference of Regionalist Teachers was held in Łowicz, organized under the patronage of the Minister of National Education and the Department for the Dissemination of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Art. The main organizers were the Mazowiecka Wyższa Szkoła Humanistyczno-Pedagogiczna in Łowicz and the National Council of Regional Cultural Associations. The session program included many interesting papers, including “Cultural Heritage in the Region,” delivered by Prof. Rev. Henryk Srokowski, PhD, DSc, from ATK in Warsaw, and “The Role of the Teacher in Promoting Regionalism” by Prof. Jerzy Damrosz, PhD, DSc, from WSP in Siedlce.
The session adopted a resolution addressed to teachers in Poland, calling for the implementation of regional upbringing and regional education.
The second important meeting was a visit to the President of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, on 11 July 1996 in Warsaw. The meeting addressed the role and place of the regional press; during a candid and unrestricted conversation in the garden behind the presidential palace, it was also possible to meet the President’s cabinet ministers—including Siwiec, Waniek and Janik—as well as the press spokesman, Mr Styrczula.
It was announced that similar meetings would continue.
