The editorial office of "Głos" receives a large number of letters and phone calls in which readers complain about the excessively frequent and severe increases in rent and other charges imposed by the Management Board of the "Bolesławianka" Housing Cooperative.
This year alone, charges increased by more than 30% between January and April, and in some apartments printouts showing changes in charges are delivered as many as twice a month. Readers, especially pensioners and disability pension recipients, warn the "insatiable" Cooperative Management Board that such an avalanche of increases may cause an increasingly impoverished group of pensioners and disability pension recipients to stop paying altogether. Mrs. Władysława Ż. from Starzyńskiego Street writes that housing cooperative charges already take half of her pension, "and then there is energy—what is left for living?"
The editorial office of "Głos" would be pleased to publish an explanation of the reasons for such severe increases, and even more pleased to receive an assurance that the Housing Cooperative Management Board will exercise some restraint in this matter. People are simply "barely scraping by".
