This is the time when football boots hang on pegs. The pitches are covered with white powder. But it is also a time to review half of the 1995/96 football season.
The BKS Club’s flagship is its senior team, but this autumn the achievement of the younger youth team, coached by Adrian Bernacki and competing in the regional league, has taken center stage. They performed brilliantly in the league, which had been expanded to 10 teams. They won 8 consecutive matches, only losing 1:2 at home to Granica Bogatynia in the final one. This gave them first place in the table, with a 4-point advantage over Granica. The team includes many talented boys who are making constant progress.
The older youth team, coached by Marian Grzegorzewski, also performed well, finishing 4th among 10 teams. The juniors fared somewhat worse in the regional league. The younger players, coached by Tomasz Benesiewicz, finished 5th, while the older team coached by Jerzy Sobczak finished 8th.
Unfortunately, the juniors competing in the inter-district league performed poorly. They won two and drew one of 13 matches, which placed them 12th among 14 teams. The senior team also competes in the inter-district league. After a very poor start to the season, a positive change came after Józef Kawałko took over the team. Ultimately, the BKS team finished 9th. The club has high hopes that the new coach will continue the work begun and build a good team at at least the III-league level, one that will not merely provide points for others. The expectations of fans of this most popular sport would be fully satisfied. This season, the following players left BKS: Krzysztof Lechowski (Sparta Ziębice), Daniel Giza (Wratislavia), Marek Dąbrowski (Karkonosze Jelenia Góra), who were loaned out because they were continuing their education, and Krzysztof Kownacki, who left for military service. Reinforcements are needed, particularly in goal. The groups mentioned form a proper training pyramid, making it possible to develop footballers who will form the core of a strong future team. An important addition is the intake group, where Henryk Kusojć works from the ground up with the youngest football enthusiasts.
The Inter-School Sports Centre, which employs coaches A. Bernacki, T. Benesiewicz, J. Sobczak and H. Kusojć, provides considerable assistance in organizing football training at the BKS Club.
Now that the Christmas and New Year celebrations have passed, it is time to think about preparations for the second leg. The winter period must be used well, and we, the fans, will assess the results.
