In the first days of May, a delegation of students and teachers from the Bolesławiec Music School visited Pilsen. The visit resulted from cultural cooperation between the cities of Bolesławiec and Pilsen, which began last year. We owe the presentation of the school’s artistic achievements to the Music School in Pilsen, whose community demonstrated extraordinary hospitality. The young people from Bolesławiec stayed with Czech families, which encouraged them to form new acquaintances and friendships. During their three-day stay in the Czech Republic, the students performed in Pilsen: in the municipal concert hall, at the Cultural Centre, and at the City Museum in Sušice. The soloists who performed were Marcin Stopyra (guitar) and pianists Magdalena Jop, Katarzyna Wąsik and Paulina Żyzna, who played works by Polish composers.
The flute trio consisting of Katarzyna Wasylkowska, Mariusz Mazurek and Kamila Salwerowicz performed Dowland’s piece “Shortin Bread”. J.B. de Boismortier’s Concerto in C major was performed by a flute quintet led by Marian Kostecki, MA. Jolanta and Elżbieta Bogaczewicz performed J. Haydn’s Serenade.
The main event of the programme was a performance by the school orchestra conducted by Dorota Pińczuk, MA, and Leszek Żyzny, MA. The orchestra’s repertoire included works by Brahms, Handel and Weber; Vogler’s Piano Concerto in C major (soloist: Iwona Kubina); Telemann’s Flute Concerto in A minor (soloists: M. Anuszkiewicz and K. Salwerowicz); and “One Moment in Time” (trumpet solo by Paweł Greszczyszyn). The orchestra was accompanied by Dorota Popek, MA. The concerts were very popular, with the light-entertainment pieces receiving a particularly warm reception.
The stay in the Czech Republic left unforgettable impressions. The young people and their supervisors toured Pilsen and Kašperk Castle, located near Sušice. Beautiful, sunny weather made the trip even more enjoyable. The return visit by the “Jawornicki” children’s choir from Pilsen will take place from 23 to 26 May this year.
