On 17 May, the 3rd Inter-School Piano Competition was held at the Music School in Bolesławiec, organized by the piano section under the direction of mgr Lidii Jop. This year, for the first time, music schools from the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship were invited to participate in the competition. A total of 21 students from Jelenia Góra, Zgorzelec and Bolesławiec performed. In accordance with the regulations, each participant performed three pieces: one compulsory piece (in sonata form), a polyphonic piece and a piece by a Polish composer. The jury, chaired by p. ad. Małgorzata Gajlesz from WSP in Zielona Góra, selected the best performers: in Category I (students in Years I and II), first place went to Agata Ochnio from PSM in Bolesławiec (teacher mgr Małgorzata Kuśnierz), second place to Marcelina Twardowska from PSM in Jelenia Góra (teacher mgr Urszula Smolska), and third place to Alicja Pogłódek from PSM in Zgorzelec (teacher Cezary Kłos). In Category II (students in Years III and IV):
First place went to Piotr Turwanicki from PSM in Jelenia Góra (teacher mgr Urszula Smolska), second place to Katarzyna Wąsik from PSM in Bolesławiec (teacher Małgorzata Niewęgłowska), and third place to Sylwia Polańska from PSM in Bolesławiec (teacher mgr Urszula Patalej).
In the oldest group, first place went to Alicja Szaja from PSM in Bolesławiec (teacher mgr Lidia Jop); the jury awarded two equal second places to Irmina Agos (teacher mgr Urszula Patalej) and Paulina Żyzna (teacher mgr Lidia Jop).
The jury assessed the participants’ playing level as very good, supporting the idea of organizing musical events promoting Polish music. The piano competition provided an opportunity to compare the achievements of the individual schools, creating possibilities for teachers to exchange experiences and for students to engage in competition.
