On November 9, BKS Bolesławiec footballers concluded the autumn 1996/97 season in the senior inter-district league. Ten wins, three draws and four defeats—that was their record after 17 championship rounds. Here are the results achieved: 0–0 against Zamek Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, 2–2 against Włókniarz Kudowa, 8–1 against Granica Bogatynia, 2–2 against Zjednoczeni Bolków, 2–1 against Ślęża II Wrocław, 2–5 against Nysa Zgorzelec, 1–0 against Sparta Ziębice, 0–1 against Czarni Wałbrzych, 5–0 against Nysa Kłodzko, 0–3 against Polar Wrocław, 1–0 against Polonia Środa Śląska, 2–1 against Olimpia Kamienna Góra, 4–1 against Mirsk, 0–1 against Włókniarz Głuszyca, 4–2 against Strzelinianka Strzelin, 4–2 against Polonia Wrocław and 3–0 against Pogoń Świerzawa. The top of the table was as follows: 1. Polar Wrocław 40 points, 46:18; 2. Olimpia Kam. Góra 34, 40:13; 3. BKS Bolesławiec 33, 40:22; 4. Polonia Środa Śl. 32, 42:22; 5. Nysa Zgorzelec 31, 35:23; 6. Sparta Ziębice 30, 32:21. The leading scorers for our team were Dariusz Halka, with seven goals; Krzysztof Lechowski, Piotr Bilski and Rafał Stasiak, with six each; and Tomasz Fulczyński and Krzysztof Kamuda, with four each. The core of the team coached by Józef Kawałko consisted of W. Młocek in goal; S. Tylutki, J. Pietrzak, K. Kamuda and Adam Malczyk in defence; M. Rutkowski, T. Fulczyński, K. Lechowski, the team captain, and Piotr Bilski in midfield; and D. Hałka and R. Stasiak in attack. Sebastian Tylutki, who scored three goals, and Łukasz Popek, both still juniors, also made successful appearances among the senior players. As the standings show, the contenders are very evenly matched, promising a thrilling battle for the two places earning promotion to the Third League. All the teams still have a chance—including BKS Bolesławiec. The return round begins on March 23, 1997. In the most recent period, BKS footballers played two interesting friendly matches: against first-division Zagłębie Lubin, losing 0–6 (0–0), and second-division Miedź Legnica, losing 2–4 (1–1). While Zagłębie, fielding its first-division lineup in the second half, overwhelmed our amateurs, the match against Miedź was more evenly balanced, and the two goals scored by Piotr Bilski were the highlight of the game. However, our footballers still have some way to go to reach the level of the country’s top divisions. Nevertheless, BKS’s good play makes it a valuable sparring partner for the best teams in our region. The training benefits that the BKS team should gain will certainly pay dividends in league competition.
