On 3 December 1996, a general meeting of the members and supporters of the local branch of the Association of Friends of the Drohobych Region was held in the hall of the State Music School, first level. The branch’s current chairman, Tadeusz Wodas, gave a critical summary of the Association’s four years of activity; in Bolesławiec, it has approximately 25 members. However, according to the guests at the meeting—retired Col. Włodzimierz Kowalski and TMB member Zdzisław Mirecki—the Kresowiacy Monument, which was created on the initiative of a member of the branch, Mr Adam Kowalski, is a success that brings recognition to both the branch and the city of Bolesławiec. Today, this monument unites all Poles who came to our city after the war, as well as those who were born here. A similar opinion was expressed by the city’s deputy mayor, Jan Jasiukiewicz, and the chairman of the Main Board of the Association of the Drohobych Region, engineer Adam Czupkiewicz from Wrocław.The branch’s new board was elected: Wacław Czupkiewicz – chairman of the branch board; M. Dudziak – deputy chairman; Z. Mazur – secretary; S. Raszkiewicz – treasurer; T. Wodas and K. Szandrowski – board members.Mr Adam Kowalski—the originator of the Kresowiacy Monument—was appointed honorary chairman of the Drohobych Residents’ Branch. At the end of the meeting, those gathered listened to a concert performed by students of the first-level State Music School in Bolesławiec, dedicated to the people of Drohobych by the school’s director, Dorota Pińczuk, MA.
