At the request of the Metropolitan Curia in Wrocław, Dean Edward Bober began efforts with the state authorities, through the Religious Affairs Department in Jelenia Góra, to obtain permission to build a new church in the housing estate beyond the railway tracks, within the area of Orzeszkowej and Łąkowa Streets. After all formalities had been completed, a plot of land measuring 0.35 hectares was obtained.
On 3 March 1985, two new side altars, made of maple wood by Tadeusz Herbut, a carpenter from Gromadka, were placed in the parish church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bolesławiec. The cost of the altars was three hundred thousand złotys. The altars contain two oil paintings on canvas by the artist Jerzy Masternak from Kotowice near Oława. One depicts the Merciful Christ and the other St Christopher.
On 15 February 1985, Sister Emilia Ott died; on 24 May 1980, she had joined the Catholic Church. Sister Emilia’s funeral took place in the parish church. Six local priests, Adorers, Elizabethans, and Evangelical deaconesses from Magdeburg, the congregation to which Sister Emilia belonged, took part in the ceremony. The deceased had served the people of Bolesławiec primarily by treating young children.
On 1 May 1985, Dean Edward Bober’s mother, Katarzyna Bober, died after receiving the holy sacraments. She had lived in the rectory for 15 years and helped with household work. She attended Holy Mass and received Holy Communion every day. The funeral Mass was celebrated in the parish church in Bolesławiec. The concelebrants included Rev. Canon Jan Słomka from Nowogrodziec, Rev. Edmund Tkocz from Ocice, Rev. Władysław Karwacki from Bolesławiec, Rev. Canon Eugeniusz Hadrian from Zebrzydowa, Rev. Prelate Dean Władysław Rączka, Rev. Prefect Jan Czachor, Rev. Prefect Piotr Krzywania, Rev. Prefect Tadeusz Kmieć, and Dean Edward Bober, who presided over the concelebration. Rev. Henryk Drewniok from Trzebień was also present. The number of faithful attending the funeral was very large.
On Saturday, 25 May 1985, at 6:30 p.m., a meeting of the faithful with the distinguished actress Halina Mikołajska took place in the parish church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bolesławiec. She presented “The Marian Triptych” as part of catechesis for adults. It was a beautiful religious work depicting the entire life of both the Blessed Virgin Mary and Her Son, Jesus Christ. Many of the faithful attended the performance. As a token of gratitude, they presented the actress with flowers and gave her a Bolesławiec ceramic vase.
The canonical visitation of the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bolesławiec, at 1b Zamkowy Square, was conducted by Bishop Józef Pazdur on 23 June 1985. The bishop met, among others, with teachers, approximately fifty of whom came to the catechetical classroom.
In accordance with the tradition of this parish, a solemn service in honor of St Christopher, the patron saint of drivers, was held on the last Sunday of July. The solemn Mass was celebrated by Rev. Prof. Norbert Jonek from Wrocław, and the sermon addressed to drivers was delivered by Rev. Canon Jan Słomka from Nowogrodziec. Many of the faithful attended, including approximately one hundred drivers. The celebration concluded with a procession with the Blessed Sacrament and an image of St Christopher carried by the drivers.
At the beginning of August, the faithful in the parish solemnly pledged that they would not drink alcohol during that month. A total of 287 people entered their names in the commemorative book.
The young people of the parish took part in a pilgrimage to Marian shrines. First, under the leadership of Rev. Piotr Krzywania, they walked to Częstochowa from 6 to 15 August. On 15 September, 54 boys and girls participated in the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine in Wambierzyce.
On the first Friday of every month, priests visited sick parishioners in their homes, bringing them the Blessed Sacrament. On that day, they visited more than 80 physically weak and ill people who were unable to come to the church on their own.
From 18 to 26 October, a “Christian Culture Week” was organized. Among the guests were Bishop Adam Dyczkowski and Professor Pater from Wrocław. The participation of the local priests and faithful was considerable.
