Even children in the first grade of primary school watch television until late at night, without any selection or supervision. Blood, tears, attacks, kidnappings and rapes, human suffering and torture – this is everyday television reality. According to educators, television is becoming practically an instructional textbook on violence and aggression. It teaches children and young people what it should protect them from. Children are capable of imitation. Television characters are suggestive; they provide stimuli, ideas and behavioral models, while for a child it makes little difference whether the character is real or created in an animated or puppet film. In some countries (Italy, Germany), media education has been introduced into school curricula. This is a way of demythologizing TV. Children learn about its specific nature, learn how to use it and how to assess it realistically.
