There was widespread interest in Magdalena Piekorz's "The Welts" even before the film appeared on screens. The screenplay was based on the novel "Muck", which brought its author, Wojciech Kuczok, the NIKE Literary Award and the Polityka Passport. "Muck" portrays a "normal" Polish family in which people stay together because they have no other idea for their lives. The only child-rearing method used—or rather, abused—by the father is a leather whip.

The protagonist of the film version is thirty-year-old Wojciech (played brilliantly by Michał Żebrowski), an ambitious and independent man who was raised by a sadistic father during his childhood. He lives alone, without family or love, because it is easier and safer that way—there is no possibility of repeating his father's mistakes. In this cold, loveless world, a young woman, Tania (Agnieszka Grochowska), appears. Devotedly trying to save the protagonist while also finding in him support for her life, she seeks to build a family against all odds.

"The Welts" is the feature-film debut of young director Magdalena Piekorz. It was awarded the Golden Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival and is also Poland's candidate for an Oscar in the "Best Foreign Language Film" category. Residents of Bolesławiec can see "The Welts" just three weeks after its nationwide premiere.

The next film is "Around the World in 80 Days", based on the novel by Jules Verne. This is not its first screen adaptation—the book, published in 1873, has already been brought to the screen more than a dozen times. The latest version of the story about the adventures of the eccentric English gentleman Fogg and his servant during an 80-day mad journey around the world differs from its literary original.

The role of the ambitious, phlegmatic Englishman is played by television comedian Steve Coogan. He performs the task equally engagingly, thanks in no small part to the screenwriters, who thoroughly changed not only the protagonist's personality but also the number of his crazy adventures. In the new version, Mr. Fogg is a dreamer-scientist who devotes all his time to devising various inventions. An additional asset of the comedy, directed by Frank Coraci, is the episodic appearances of Hollywood stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and John Cleese.
