Radosław Gajewski from the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, curator of the “Whisper” exhibition, came up with the idea for the Cabinet Gallery. “The idea of a miniature gallery is nothing new,” Gajewski emphasizes. Similar exhibitions have been organized, among other places, in Poznań and Warsaw, where artworks were displayed in... a shoebox. However, as the curator points out, the Bolesławiec exhibition is distinguished by the fact that the cabinet in the foyer of Forum cinema was not artificially created for exhibition purposes. It is a piece of furniture strongly connected with everyday life and one that evokes positive associations.
The “Whisper” exhibition presents a work by Jolanta Różyło and Martyna Żyń, who are normally students at the II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec. It is their first exhibition. The work on display was created in two days. The young artists do not want to reveal its message. “We would prefer to leave the interpretation to the viewers,” Jolanta admits. “This is an open cabinet. We encourage everyone who has an idea to express themselves in this way,” Martyna adds.
Radosław Gajewski wants not only young people but also established artists to exhibit their work in the cabinet. The mini-gallery is intended to be a project that brings generations together. On the one hand, it is meant to spark young people’s interest in works displayed in the Długa Gallery of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. On the other hand, it is meant to attract the attention of older people. “I want both projects to share the same audience,” the curator emphasizes.
The exhibition can be visited for the next month.
