A ceremonial session of the City Council, attended by Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk, the Apostolic Nuncio, took place on 18 May at Bolesławiec Town Hall. Among the invited guests were clergy, religious sisters and representatives of the provincial authorities. Not all councillors attended the meeting. Irena Dul and Józef Burniak of the Democratic Left Alliance and Bogusław Nowak of the Civic Platform were absent.
During the ceremonial session, speeches were given by City Council Chairwoman Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, Mayor Piotr Roman and Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk. The meeting concluded with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque embedded in the front wall of Bolesławiec Town Hall.
At 12:00, Mass began in the market square, during which the decree of the Holy See granting our city the patronage of Saint Maria de Mattias, founder of the Congregation of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ, was announced. The weather was uncooperative, but the faithful turned out in large numbers. Several dozen Church dignitaries and hundreds of Bolesławiec residents took part in the ceremony.
