The second day of Bolesławiec’s celebrations was devoted to Balkan culture. From 10:00 a.m., folk music performed by the Jutrzenka Song and Dance Ensemble could be heard in the town center. After a short performance, the artists walked from the town hall to Father Popiełuszko Square. At the same time, the 16th International VIP Police Officers’ Bicycle Rally set off from Bolesławiec’s market square. The column of cyclists was escorted by a police car and two municipal guards on bicycles.
From the morning, the Gumiera settlement was being built on Father Popiełuszko Square. At the folk stalls, visitors could sample many delicacies and specialties of Balkan cuisine. These included pečenica, pita, various cakes and soups. Those who considered themselves unlucky could purchase a lucky horseshoe forged with a name on it.
Not far from the folk stalls, folk groups performed, including Jutrzenka, Zagajnik and Kapela Herbutów. Their lively music drew many Bolesławiec residents into the festivities. The event was hosted by Stanisław Sielicki, an actor, master of ceremonies and entertainer.
At 4:00 p.m., a performance prepared by the Congregation of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ began in the Forum cinema auditorium. It was titled “Love to the End, or an Episode from the Life of St. Maria de Mattias.”
The second day of the town celebration also featured plenty of sporting excitement. The Bolesławiec Hundred Swimming Race was held at the indoor swimming pool. Meanwhile, strongmen competed in the International Bench Press Championships in the sports hall of the First General Secondary School.
After 6:00 p.m., folk groups began performing on the main stage. The Bolesławiec audience saw, among others, Jutrzenka, Zagajnik, Nad Kwisą and Niespodzianka. The stars of this year’s South Slavic Culture Festival were RKUD Pelagić from Banja Luka and Terno, which presented the show “Gypsy Wedding.” Bolesławiec residents enjoyed themselves until late at night.
