“This is simply vandalism. Not a shred of respect for nature,” says Mr Mariusz. “You don’t even want to sit here,” adds Ms Magdalena. Bolesławiec residents who like spending their free time on the Bóbr riverside promenade admit that rubbish is often scattered here, and in various places. Sometimes it can also be found near one of the well-known nightclubs.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, someone dumped the contents of rubbish bins onto the grass. “An adult surely didn’t do it—either children or teenagers did,” says a Bolesławiec woman we encountered. Another passer-by told us that there had been cases of rubbish bins being pulled out.

The green area from Gdańska Street to Zgorzelecka Street belongs to the municipal commune. It is cleaned by the company ZieleńPlan. Any case of littering along the promenade can be reported to the municipal police. The problem is that if someone makes a mess on Sunday, someone else will have to wait until Monday for intervention, because municipal police officers do not work on Sundays.
