Given the low level of terrorist threat in Bolesławiec, the lack of specialized training in this area is not surprising. “Employees of the city hall learn how to behave in the event of such a threat during occupational health and safety training,” says city hall spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont. “Every two years, we practice evacuating the office building at Piłsudskiego Square,” adds Agnieszka Gergont.
The phenomenon of terrorism is not limited to organized acts of violence motivated by ideology or religion. It turns out that an “innocent joke” in the form of calling an institution and informing it that a bomb has been planted is an act bordering on terrorism.
A similar situation occurs when someone leaves a suspicious-looking package in a public place. It is essential to be prepared for such eventualities.
If people do not know how to behave in a dangerous situation, there is a risk that panic will break out. Panic and the chaos it causes in people’s behavior can have worse consequences than the threat itself and its effects. That is why practicing how to behave as a community in the event of a threat is so important.
