The contract was signed at the headquarters of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe in Warsaw on April 18. It covers the design and modernization of the railway bridge in Bolesławiec. The works are valued at EUR 10,154,626.88.
The modernization is expected to take 18 months. It will be carried out by a consortium comprising companies from Wrocław and Plauen (Germany). The E 30 railway line, which forms part of one of the European transport corridors, is a line of priority importance. In Poland, it runs from the border with Germany at Zgorzelec and Bielawa Dolna, through Legnica, Wrocław, Opole, Gliwice, Katowice, Kraków, Tarnów, Rzeszów and Przemyśl, to the border with Ukraine. Its modernization is also important in the context of Poland's preparations for Euro 2012.
The railway bridge over the Bóbr River is one of the longest structures of its kind in Europe. It is 490 meters long and 26 meters high. It was built according to a design by the renowned architect Fryderyk Engelhardt Gansel. Construction took more than two years and cost 400,000 thalers.
The investment will be co-financed by the Cohesion Fund.
