The tragedy occurred during the night of April 12–13. Two young residents of Lubań had been out at a disco in Bolesławiec. After the event, they intended to return home by train. However, at the station they mistakenly boarded a train running from Zgorzelec to Przemyśl.
When they realized that they were travelling in the opposite direction, they jumped from the moving train 1.5 km beyond Bolesławiec, towards Tomaszów Bolesławiecki. One of them died at the scene. The other was taken to a hospital in Bolesławiec with a damaged frontal bone of the skull and spinal injuries. We have established that his condition is stable.
Both men were drunk. Before the ill-fated journey, they had additionally purchased alcohol.
