The ranking is organized annually by the Association of Polish Counties. Competition among cities and counties lasts twelve months. The best local governments are honored at the end of each year. The ranking organizers assess the activities of local government units in terms of promotion, support for the development of the information society, improvement of the quality of services for residents, development of the information system, and promotion of eco-energy and environmentally friendly solutions.

This year’s ceremony honoring the best local governments took place on April 3 during the 11th General Assembly of the Association of Polish Counties in Warsaw. The honorary title and trophy for Bolesławiec were accepted by the city’s mayor, Piotr Roman.

“Participation in the Association of Polish Counties ranking makes it possible to compare ourselves with other cities in Poland. It is also one of the ways to improve the work of the city hall and, consequently, services for residents,” says the mayor of Bolesławiec. “The systematic expansion of the competition to include new tasks, introduced each year by the organizers, makes it possible to compare the activities of local governments in various areas of social life and provides additional incentives for activity and the introduction of innovative solutions,” he adds.

Counties, cities with county rights, or municipalities receive points awarded after a given local government meets the competition requirements. For 2007, Bolesławiec received nearly 3,500 points. In the top fifteen, Bolesławiec is surpassed only by Polanica Zdrój (Kłodzko County) and Kobylica (Słupsk County).

The ranking has been organized since 2003.
