The devices were installed earlier, but the mechanism only began operating on February 22. “The traffic lights at these crossings were installed at the city’s request because there is a school nearby,” explains Joanna Wąsiel, spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
The mechanism was chosen with the intention of ensuring the safety of students at two nearby educational institutions. Drivers, however, were not taken into consideration. “This street is often congested,” the spokesperson believes.
