Krzysztof Samonek and Norbert Stolicki stood on the podium at the Polish National Racketlon Tournament, which was held in Łódź. Krzysztof Samonek defeated Norbert Stolicki in the final and took first place. Norbert Stolicki finished as runner-up. The tournament featured 34 of the best racketlon players from across Poland. Magdalena Grzybowska also made her debut in the Łódź competition. The Polish tennis champion ultimately finished fourth.
By taking first place, Krzysztof Samonek proved that his victory over Polish Champion Rafał Rykowski in Poznań in November was no fluke. This time, on his way to winning the Open group, Samonek defeated Leszek Borys and Norbert Stolicki, both ranked higher by the Polish Racketlon Federation.
Bolesławiec players at the World Championships in the Netherlands
The Łódź tournament was a good test of the Bolesławiec players’ form ahead of the World Championships, which will be held in the Netherlands at the end of December. Polish Champion and TOP Bolesławiec player Krystyna Szwajkowska will also take part. All three players from Bolesławiec will represent Poland in the team tournament!
It is already known that Poland, represented by three TOP Bolesławiec players, will face a difficult match against England in the first round of the World Championships. If Poland wins, the national team will face Germany—the tournament favourites—in the next match.
In the individual events, Norbert Stolicki’s opponent will be Christian Wall (Sweden), while Krzysztof Samonek will face Gert Peersman (Belgium). The Belgian is theoretically the weaker opponent, but in the next round Samonek could face either Germany’s Elmar Schaub or the current World Champion, Mikko Karkkainen. Krystyna Szwajkowska will play her first match against Austrian Sandra Ettenauer. In a later stage of the tournament, our player could face Linda Jansson of Sweden, ranked third in the world.
