A St. Nicholas Day celebration for children from the community and prevention day center operating at Primary School No. 4 was held on December 13 in a hall located in the “Gwarek” allotment gardens. The Young Social Democrats planned a two-hour event whose special guest was a visitor from distant Lapland—Santa Claus (he came to Bolesławiec together with his assistant, an Elf). He brought the children Christmas presents. Before handing them out, however, he decided to get to know the children better by organizing various competitions.
The event began with a Christmas knowledge test, giving the children an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of Christmas traditions. Santa then divided the children into four groups of five, which competed against one another in, among other things, the “Elf Charades” competition, solving rebuses and drawing their dream Christmas tree. Emotions ran high because sweet treats were at stake. At the end, each child spoke with Santa face to face and received a Christmas present from him.
“I would like to sincerely thank the children for coming to the meeting with Santa Claus, for the wonderful fun and for the smiles on their faces. Being able to see how much joy they get from playing with our guest is a wonderful gift for us,” says Michał Banaś, chairman of the FMS in Bolesławiec County. “Organizing the St. Nicholas Day celebration is another success for our federation. Thanks to the hard work of our members, once again we were able to see genuine smiles on the faces of children who happily took part in the St. Nicholas Day activities. Such moments convince us that what we do is truly needed,” adds Paweł Zieliński, FMS secretary. “I would also like to thank all those whose support made it possible for Santa to come to our town,” Banaś concludes.
The following people took part in the event: Michał Banaś, Paweł Zieliński, Izabela Gruchawka, Patryk Kania, Krzysztof Laskowski, Pamela Banaszak, Łukasz Ludwikowski, Magdalena Herdzik and Ada Mroczko. Members of the District Council of the Democratic Left Alliance and private sponsors supported the celebration.
