On 5 December, children from the Primary School in Kraśnik Dolny had the opportunity to watch a special St Nicholas Day performance. The show was a unique journey through time and space, featuring historical events of key importance to the Polish nation, such as the Baptism of Poland, the Battle of Grunwald, the enactment of the Constitution of 3 May and the Second World War.
The pupils of the Kraśnik primary school were by no means passive spectators—they actively took part in the performance, playing the roles of kings, knights, deputies and soldiers. At the end of the show, St Nicholas handed out sweets to the youngest children.
This was the sixth edition of the St Nicholas Day performances for children organised by employees of the Bolesławiec GOKiS. This year, the inspiration for Beata Widera, the director and screenwriter of the performances, was the history of Poland. In previous years, the central themes of the St Nicholas Day events included music, spelling, information technology and mathematics.
The performance featured Beata Widera (as the fairy La Befana), Tadeusz Orawiec (as Bishop Jordan, a Teutonic Knight, a deputy and a general) and Ryszard Rojek (as St Nicholas, King Władysław Jagiełło and a soldier from the Second World War). Grażyna Wężyk was responsible for the sound production. On Friday, 7 December, children from Brzeźnik and Żeliszów will have the opportunity to see the performance.
