On 31 December, the Act on the Temporary Use of Identity Cards will enter into force. This means that booklet-style identity cards will become invalid, and from 1 January until—at the latest—31 March 2008, they will only serve as documents confirming a person’s identity and certifying Polish citizenship.

From 1 January next year, a booklet-style identity card will no longer authorize its holder to cross borders. Therefore, the Mayor of Bolesławiec urges the city’s residents to submit applications to replace their identity cards by 31 December 2007.

Applications will be accepted by the Civic Affairs Department of the City Hall. For residents’ convenience, they may also be submitted on Saturdays, 15 and 29 December 2007, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The City Hall will be closed on 24 December. Officials will instead work on 31 December, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
