The organization’s main principles were discussed on Tuesday at the Kliczków castle. One of the initiators of the Consortium was the Bolesławiec County Governor, Krzysztof Konopka. “Through our activities, we want to create a lobby that would ensure equal treatment of entities—county hospitals and voivodeship hospitals alike. We want patients to have the full right to choose free treatment, either where they live or in the nearest surrounding area,” explains Krzysztof Konopka.

The consortium’s primary role will be to ensure that county and voivodeship hospitals are treated equally by the National Health Fund. The possibility of influencing the allocation of financial resources intended for contracts related to medical services is also invaluable. Another goal set by the consortium is to adapt hospitals to the standards in force in the European Union. Cooperation with similar organizations from other countries is also planned.

Andrzej Woźny, director of the National Health Fund, considers the establishment of the consortium a good move. “It is much easier to discuss substantive matters with a representation of all hospitals than with each management board separately. This will save us a great deal of time and allow us to distribute resources in a reasonably equal manner acceptable to the hospitals,” says Andrzej Woźny.

Amid the chaos associated with healthcare reforms and against the backdrop of high-profile scandals involving Bolesławiec doctors, establishing the consortium appears to be a considered and forward-looking move. However, it will certainly be a long time before the results of the new organization’s work become visible. Hopefully, they will be the best possible.
