Wojtek Leszczyński has been called up to the training camp of Poland’s U-16 national cadet basketball team. To make the squad, the KK StarBol player had to pass through several qualifying stages. Initially, the Regional Basketball Associations selected players from their districts to take part in a macro-regional camp. One of them was held in Zielona Góra in June. It lasted 10 days. Two players were selected from our club: Tomasz Szewczyk and Wojciech Leszczyński. Unfortunately, Tomek Szewczyk ultimately did not take part in the qualifiers. The Zielona Góra competition identified the 10 best basketball players. They received nominations for the next round of selection. There was only one person from Lower Silesia among them – Wojtek Leszczyński.

The next and final qualifying stage was the central camp in Słupsk. Forty players who had completed the macro-regional camps took part. The competition lasted a week, after which all the players returned home. The Polish Basketball Association was to notify the players by letter who would receive a call-up to the national team. Last week, KK StarBol received a letter from the PBA stating that Wojtek Leszczyński had been called up for a training consultation of Poland’s cadet national team, to be held from 8 to 11 November at the Olympic Preparation Centre in Spała.

The national team remains open to another of our players – Tomek Szewczyk. Perhaps there will still be an opportunity for Tomek to demonstrate his skills. “We will do everything we can to give Tomek the opportunity to show his skills to the national team coaches. We regret that he did not take part in the qualifiers. He had a good chance of making the national team through this route,” said KK StarBol coach Jarosław Leszczyński.
