The Lower Silesian Junior Championships were held at Książ Castle on October 6–7. More than 200 competitors in five age categories took part in the provincial competition, playing at 100 chessboards. The under-8 boys’ group included our 7-year-old from the TOP Bolesławiec club, Polish Champion Kacper Grela.
The championship in the C9 group also served as a qualifier for the International German Under-8 Boys’ Championships. Only the group winner could qualify. The competition was played using the Swiss system (the winner of each game advances and plays increasingly stronger opponents). In the final games, the best players faced one another.
The provincial championship title in the under-8 boys’ category was won by TOP Bolesławiec player Kacper Grela, who had no equal on the chessboard. In view of the young Bolesławiec player’s achievements, the Polish Chess Federation entered Kacper in the international championships, which will be held from October 14–20 in Sebnitz near Dresden.
Our champion’s coach is Marcin Zimerman.
