Sewerian M. and Floricia R., Romanian citizens, entered a small shop at a petrol station in Brzeźnik last week. Their acquaintances—another Romanian couple with children—pretended at the same time to be doing extensive shopping. They selected goods and placed them on the counter, but after a while gave them up. They caused quite a commotion. To confuse the station employee even further, Sewerian M. tried to pay with a 200-euro banknote. The salesperson explained that he could give change only in Polish złoty.
The resourceful Romanians distracted the station employee so effectively that he gave them PLN 350 in change, even though he had not received payment. When he realized what had happened, he notified the police.
Police officers from Bolesławiec caught the group of fraudsters on Route No. 4. The Romanian citizens were tried under an expedited procedure. By court decision, Sewerian M. and Floricia R. each paid a PLN 500 fine. They also had to return the money stolen from the station.
